Firmware 4.45: Pain In The Butt

The PS3 Firmware update aimed at stabilizing trophy systems and overall system stability has somewhat backfired with several gamers reporting that their systems have broken down.

Whilst many Playstation users have yet to download the update and Sony has since pulled the patch from the servers, PS Plus members may have automatically downloaded the patch. The community has taken to forums to express their concern here.

A Sony spokesperson told IGN the following:

“We are aware of reports that the recent PlayStation 3 system software update (version 4.45) has caused the XMB to not display on a small number of PS3 systems.”

“We have temporarily taken 4.45 offline and are investigating the cause of the problem. We will announce when the system update is available for download as soon as possible.  We apologise for the inconvenience.

Despite their recent E3 success, this sort of problem could cause detrimental for the few systems affected.
